Frederic has dual qualifications in English and French law and advises international companies, contractors, owners and operators on all forms of dispute resolution, including litigation, arbitration, adjudication, disputes boards, and mediation. He has a wealth of experience on all the major standard form construction suites used in the UK and internationally as well as bespoke contracts.

Frederic acts in a wide range of construction sectors in the UK and internationally, including general infrastructure, transport, water and wastewater, and energy.

Specialist expertise
Frederic has considerable experience of institutional arbitrations (including ICC and LCIA) as well as ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules. Much of his recent international work has involved acting for major contractors in Central and Eastern Europe both in DAB and arbitration proceedings. Frederic also has particular experience in the FIDIC forms of contract.

Examples of Frederic’s experience include:

  • Acting for a leading French water treatment plant specialist in a high court claim for £150 million regarding the design of a wastewater treatment plant in the UK.
  • Advising and representing a major European contractor in relation to DAB proceedings and subsequent ICC arbitration proceedings regarding the termination of its contract on a motorway project in Central Europe (FIDIC Red Book). Amount in dispute: £20m.
  • Advising and representing an Italian contractor in an ICC arbitration in relation to claims for extension of time / disruption costs on a road rehabilitation project in Central Europe (FIDIC Red Book). Amount in dispute: £10m.
  • Acting for a Greek contractor in DAB proceedings in a claim for wrongful termination of its contract by the Romanian Ministry of Finance in relation to a water supply system (FIDIC Yellow Book).
  • Advising a leading Finish power company in connection with operation and maintenance services provided to the owner of a waste-to-energy facility in the UK.

Other activities
Frederic is a regular contributor to the International Construction Law Review (ICLR) and Practical Law Company’s website (PLC) where he mainly writes on FIDIC contracts. He is also a regular speaker at seminars on FIDIC forms of contract.
